Why Home Birth?

Home birth allows for a woman or birthing person to have the 5 pillars of birth:

Privacy. Silence. Safety. Darkness. Warmth.

These pillars are key! A person that feels all of these at their birth is set up to have a positive and empowering and birth. Giving birth is a personal and intimate experience and the privacy that is inherent in your home can provide the perfect environment to be vulnerable, open and accepting of the challenge that labor and birth bring.

The number one question we hear from people who haven’t experienced home birth and want to learn more is:

Is it safe?

Yes! Home birth is safe for women and babies who are low risk and healthy. Your health history and prenatal care help your midwife decide if home birth is a safe option for you. Homebirth is as safe as life is. There is risk in life— birth has risk—but it is not something to be afraid of. Research and years of experience show that home birth is safe.

Another reason people choose home birth is to avoid interventions. That means:

No Pitocin. No Epidural. No Episiotomy. No Surgery.

Midwives BELIEVE in your ability to birth! You can give birth and often there is very little a midwife does to help. We trust and honor the process of pregnancy, labor and birth. We have no timeline or expectations for you and your delivery. We know how a positive birth experience can transform the entire being of a person for the rest of their life. Less interventions in the birth process reduces trauma, birth injury and cesarean sections.

All people deserve to be heard and respected.

You have a choice and a voice.

It’s your body, your pregnancy, your baby and your birth. You get to decide what you want to do. Lab work, ultrasounds, exams, water birth, newborn care, etc. We give you the information, tell you what the standard of care is and present the spectrum of options, then you decide what care you want to receive. Midwives spend an average of an hour with you at every prenatal appointment to ensure there is ample time to discuss each stage of your pregnancy. We make sure you’re healthy and as prepared as possible for your birth and for your baby.

Midwives don’t deliver babies.

You have everything you need to birth your baby. As your midwife I will guide you and remind you of your power to birth your baby. I encourage all women to be the first to touch and catch their babies. I’m not there to deliver your baby, you do that! I will empower you to take charge of your birth.
